In recent years, along with the rapid development of China's economy and urbanization, China's trenchless technology industry is experiencing unprecedented opportunities and challenges. The large number of applications in municipal, gas, communication and petroleum industries have made great progress in China's trenchless technology; at the same time, the industry's demand for professional technology exchange, product information release and overseas market interaction has been increasing.

The China Society of Geology Trenchless Technology (CSTT), as the only legal civil organization that can carry out trenchless technology activities nationwide, is affiliated with the Ministry of Land and Resources, and is strongly supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Construction. As one of the members of the International Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT), the Association hosts the China International Trenchless Technology Symposium & Exhibition which, after 15 years of cultivation, has become the annual event with the highest degree of internationalization and professionalism in the Chinese trenchless technology industry.

In 2012, the Association, together with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Pipeline Engineering Section and the Center for Underground Foundation Engineering Research and Education (CUIRE) of the University of Texas, co-hosted the 16th China International Trenchless Technology Conference and Exhibition (ITTC 2012). The conference topics will cover all aspects of trenchless technology, and all selected papers will be retrieved from EI core edition. The exhibition area will also reach 7000 square meters for domestic and overseas enterprises to showcase their latest products and technologies on site. The exhibition aims to provide a good platform for the integration of industry, academia and research resources, and play a more active role in docking industrial demand, promoting industrial transactions and boosting industrial revitalization and prosperity.
